Same-Day Dental Crowns in Las Vegas, NV
When you come to The Tooth Family Dental, you might receive a crown. The crown will be affixed to your tooth and can help patients manage teeth that are fractured, broken, or otherwise suffering deterioration from decay.
Whether or not you need a crown will depend on the condition of your teeth when you visit the dentist. In general, people who avoid going to the dentist regularly (twice a year) are more likely to need a crown than a smaller procedure like a filling because the teeth have more time to decay.
Who Needs a Crown?
A dental crown can be applied for a variety of reasons. In most cases, the essential purpose is to keep together a tooth that is at risk of fracturing or to reshape one that has lost much of its structure to decay. There are other situations, though, where a crown can become necessary.
- To help hold a dental bridge in place (fixed bridge)
- To cover a dental implant (a titanium root in the jawbone)
- To support a tooth with a large filling and not a lot of external structure
- To make an aesthetic change to the shape of the teeth
Receiving a crown is a simple procedure that can be completed in just one appointment. First, the dentist will exam the tooth to see how much of the internal and external structure has worn away. If it is still decaying or infected, the dentist can clean out the unwanted material and sanitize the structure. Sometimes, a filling is inserted to create a more solid base. This filling might be gutta-percha, which can replace regular tooth material.
Using a digital scanner, the dentist will scan the tooth that needs the crown. The scans will be inputed into a milling machine to fabricate the permanent crown. This process is done on-site and on the same day! No need to come in for a second appointment.
Once the permanent crown is ready, it is cemented to the tooth and sealed in position.
